Dynasty Season 4 Release Date, Cast And Plot - What We Know So Far

The first line of the debut trailer for The CW's reboot of '80s soap opera Dynasty made it clear that the series was going to be a different beast altogether from its source material. In the trailer's opening scene, Carrington family chauffeur Michael Culhane (Robert Christopher Riley) asks series lead Fallon Carrington (Elizabeth Gillies), "How was Denver?" The original Dynasty took place in Denver, so Michael's question is intentionally a nod to the series' past. Fallon then replies, "I miss the heat." While on one hand, her response evokes the reboot's new Atlanta, Georgia, location, she could just as easily be describing the inevitable, ample melodrama to come.

Dynasty in its new incarnation may not be enjoyed by original series actor Gordon Thompson, but the show has remained successful enough to get picked up by The CW for a fifth season before even the premiere of its fourth. Here's everything we know about the upcoming Dynasty season 4 so far.

When is Dynasty season 4 going to be released?

While Dynasty has indeed been renewed for additional seasons to be released in the future, its most recent third season was impacted by the ongoing pandemic. As season 3 began airing into the early days of the pandemic's prominence in the United States, the series' producers ultimately cut its planned episode order short. Fans, while understanding, were thus left unsatisfied by some ongoing dramatic plot threads that were ultimately left unresolved. The show's upcoming fourth season, therefore, is set to not just continue the story but resolve some tension previously meant to have been addressed amidst the run of its third season.

Fortunately for fans of the show looking for answers to their burning season 3 questions, the CW confirmed in February that season 4 will premiere on Friday, May 7, 2021, in the network's 9:00 p.m. time slot. That date will be one day shy of a year since the final episode of the third season aired.

Who is going to appear in Dynasty season 4?

First word of Dynasty's fourth season was shared to the series' official Twitter account in a video featuring Blake Carrington actor Grant Show. Blake is the family's patriarch and at the center of much of the series' drama, so his return is key to Dynasty's continuation. Also central to Dynasty are a number of Carrington family members and associated parties. Those include Elizabeth Gillies as Fallon Carrington, Robert Christopher Riley as Michael Culhane, Daniella Alonso as Blake's new wife Cristal Jennings Carrington, Rafael de la Fuentes as Cristal's nephew Sam Jones, The O.C.'s Alan Dale as the Carrington family's majordomo Joseph Anders, Elaine Hendrix as Fallon's mother Alexis Carrington Colby, Sam Underwood as Fallon's brother Adam Carrington, and Adam Huber as Fallon's fiancé Liam Ridley.

New to the series is actor Luke Cook, who was announced to be appearing on the upcoming fourth season of Dynasty in a recurring role. His character Oliver is a photographer from Australia and an ex-boyfriend of Joseph's daughter Kirby (Maddison Brown). Cook's past roles include Lucifer in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Guy LaMontagne in Katy Keene.

What will be the plot of Dynasty season 4?

Since the final two planned episodes of season 3 never aired, Dynasty showrunner Josh Reims explained that the first two episodes of season 4 will essentially follow the major story beats intended for season 3's conclusion. That said, Reims noted that the season's second episode shouldn't feel like a finale, so a few details have been altered from what was originally planned.

At what has now become the end of season 3, Fallon was all set to get married to Liam. Reims described their marriage as something "we may see," so given the twisting nature of Dynasty, their union is far from a done deal. Sam, meanwhile, is now married to a stripper named Ryan he met at Fallon's bachelorette party. Finally, Both Blake and Cristal were unfaithful to one another last season. Marriage, therefore, should continue to play a dramatic role in Dynasty season 4.

Outside of its married and soon-to-be-married characters, Adam's relationship with Kirby will now be on the rocks as both Adam's ambition and the appearance of Kirby's ex Oliver shake up their lives. Since twists and turns define each season of Dynasty, these are likely just the opening moves of a story inevitably set to become complicated in new and unexpected ways.
