How Long Does It Take To Beat Bravely Default 2?

Bravely Default 2 finally launched on Feb. 25, 2021, and it has already proven itself to be a worthy addition to Square Enix's JRPG franchise. Critics have praised the game's combat and storytelling (although the character models have not proven to be as popular). While it is technically not a sequel to the previous games, Bravely Default 2 has built off of what worked in earlier installments to create a fun new experience for Nintendo Switch gamers. But does it follow in its predecessors' footsteps with a lengthy storyline?

The main story of the first Bravely Default took around 56 hours to complete, but gamers who have a tendency explore every corner and collect every trinket could easily squeeze out another twenty or so hours. Bravely Second: End Layer fell a bit short of that mark, clocking in at around 43 hours for the main campaign. Considering the fact that series producer Tomoya Asano has apologized for the underwhelming nature of Bravely Second, you may be wondering if Bravely Default 2 manages to last longer than the series' last outing.

Good news for fans of long JRPGs

The demo for Bravely Default 2 only lasted about 3 hours, which gave players a feel for the characters and the various systems. However, people who enjoyed that demo will be very happy to know that it only accounts for roughly a twentieth of the game's full runtime.

TechRadar's review of Bravely Default 2 revealed that players will likely spend "the better part of 60 hours" playing through Square Enix and Claytechworks' latest adventure. Of course, that time can be inflated a bit if you decide to check out some of the extra content in the game. According to Press Start Australia's review, there are "over a hundred side quests" to choose from in Bravely Default 2. While some of these missions are comprised of more basic tasks (like fetch quests), Press Start notes that many of these side quests are "self-contained and well-produced stories of the land" that "better flesh out the world and your characters."

In other words, 60 hours sounds like it might be the minimum amount of time that you can sink into Bravely Default 2. There's plenty more to explore on the magical continent of Excillant.
