Despicable Me 3 Trailer Is Totally '80s

Although Despicable Me 3 is technically a movie for kids, it should appeal to anyone with a vague recollection of the '80s.

Illumination Entertainment and Universal released the first trailer for the upcoming third installment in the animated franchise, and it looks to take Gru (Steve Carell) in a new, very neon direction.

South Park's Trey Parker voices Balthazar Bratt, a former child star "driven to supervillainy as a result of the abrupt cancelation of his TV series when he hit puberty." As you'll see from the trailer (above), Bratt is definitely still clinging to the '80s (shoulder pads and all).

Kristen Wiig also returns as Lucy Wilde, along with the show-stealing Minions. Although the adorable, green cohorts aren't prominently featured in the trailer, they'll surely play a big role in Despicable Me 3, arriving June 30, 2017.

Meanwhile, find out which Oscar-winning actor backed out of Despicable Me 2 just six weeks before it was scheduled to premiere.
