Deadpool, Stranger Things Grab Golden Globes 2017 Nominations

The nominees for the 74th annual Golden Globes were announced Monday morning (Dec. 12), and there are a few surprises among the perennial contenders.

The big shocker is a nomination for Deadpool in the Best Picture, Musical or Comedy category. Although the Marvel flick is by no means a conventional comedy, it's good to see some recognition for the runaway hit that changed the face of the superhero genre. But it'll face stiff competition against the critical darling La La Land, among others. Ryan Reynolds also garnered a nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy thanks to his incredible Deadpool performance.

On the TV side of things, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, and Westworld are all up for Best Drama Series, with plenty of nods for actors from each. Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) are up for Best Lead Actress in a Drama, while Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Thandie Newton (Westworld) are nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama.

The ceremony will take place Jan. 8, 2017, hosted by Jimmy Fallon. Check out the complete list of nominees below.
