Marvel's Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur - What We Know So Far

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is an upcoming animated Marvel series inspired by the original comic book series of the same name. The series follows Lunella, an incredibly intelligent 13-year-old girl, and her ten-ton T-rex partner, Devil Dinosaur. Neither of these characters has been seen outside comic pages, making this a major television debut.

The show was originally announced back in 2019 during a Disney D23 panel. In a report from Deadline, executive producer Laurence Fishburne expressed his excitement with the upcoming series. "As an avid comic book fan, I am thrilled to be involved with Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur," he said. "Disney Channel is the perfect platform to explore this pint-sized female African American superhero, and I can't wait for their audience to enjoy the lighthearted adventures of Lunella and Devil Dinosaur."

Now, more details have finally been revealed. For comic fans who are looking to find out when Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will arrive and who will star in the animated series, here's everything that's been revealed about the show.

What's the release date for Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur?

According to a report from CBR, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is set to premiere in 2022. While the series doesn't have an exact date yet, a slated release for next year does indicate that showrunners are definitely gearing up to finish production this year. While this may be speculative, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding production schedules amid the ongoing pandemic, it looks like young Marvel fans will have a treat to look forward to next year.

In addition to this release date, it's important to note that Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will premiere exclusively on the Disney Channel. Though there are several Marvel TV projects in development for streaming on Disney+, including the animated What If...?, it seems Moon Girl isn't one of them. There are a few possible reasons for this, including its focus on a younger audience and a lack of involvement in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity.

Who's in the cast of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur?

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will naturally have a talented team of voice actors to help bring the show's many characters to life. Coming Soon reports that Lunella Lafayette, alternatively known by her alias Moon Girl, will be voiced by Diamond White. White is no stranger to the Disney brand and voice acting, having previously played the role of Fuli the cheetah on the Disney animated series The Lion Guard. Her co-star, the Devil Dinosaur, will be played by Fred Tatasciore, an accomplished actor who's voiced characters like the Hulk, Deathstroke, and various other comic book icons in previous animated projects.

Alongside these two stars are a supporting cast lending their voices to Lunella's family and friends. Award-winning actress Alfre Woodard will play Mimi, Lunella's grandmother, with Gary Anthony Williams as her grandfather, Pops. Lunella's mother, Adria, is voiced by Sasheer Zamata, while her father, James Jr., will be portrayed by Gary Anthony Williams. Lunella's best friend, Casey, is voiced by Libe Barer.

What's the plot of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur?

The Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comics revolve around a highly intelligent 9-year-old girl named Lunella and her partner Devil Dinosaur. They share a connection that allows Lunella to switch consciousness with Devil Dinosaur. The duo first team up in order to find the Nightstone, an object of great power. After a series of adventures, Lunella and Devil Dinosaur form an unbreakable bond as they fight baddies throughout New York City.

According to CBR, the upcoming Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated series will follow a similar plot, with a few minor tweaks. Instead of being nine years old, Lunella is 13 in the cartoon. Additionally, the synopsis focuses more on Devil Dinosaur and Lunella teaming up together to fight crime in "the city's Lower East Side." With no mention as of yet about the Nightstone, it's possible that either this will become fleshed out when the series premieres, or it has been dropped entirely. However, it's very likely that as 2022 approaches, Disney and Marvel will offer more details regarding the storyline of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
