Here's Why World Of Warcraft Is Still Worth Playing In 2021

World of Warcraft is one of the most recognizable MMORPGs out there, but the fact that it has been around since 2004 may have many gamers wary about hopping into such an aged title.

WoW, published by Blizzard, is a staple for the MMORPG community and the gaming industry in general. World of Warcraft has been a thriving title that's seen multiple expansions, as well as a reissue of the original version. The game has brought in billions of dollars in revenue, and even led to a major motion picture, fittingly titled Warcraft. With this kind of a pedigree, players are naturally drawn to the title.

The newest expansion, Shadowlands, has made the game more "noob friendly" than ever, scaling down the max player level in order to cut back on the days of in-game grinding time players were faced with. That change in and of itself is enough reason for players to feel comfortable starting for the first time, but there are more reasons to pick the game up and jump in, even in 2021.

Frequent quality updates

World of Warcraft is not lacking in content, and the developers make sure to keep players interested with frequent updates that offer plenty of new things to do. In fact, the DLC has changed so much for the game that Blizzard released World of Warcraft Classic, a vanilla version of the game for players to enjoy, whether they've been there from the beginning or wanted to see the origins of the game and storyline.

The most recent expansion, Shadowlands, was well-received by the community and critics alike, and that's not the only expansion to do so. With Metacritic scores from critics ranging from 79 to 93, World of Warcraft and its expansions haven't disappointed.

These updates keep the game fresh for seasoned players while also constantly improving the game, which also benefits new players. On the bright side, these expansions are huge additions to the game, and they're not just full of microtransactions in order to play. The sheer amount of available content can get a little daunting for new players, but fans on Reddit are more than ready to recommend the game's many expansions.

Plenty of content to explore

World of Warcraft is a big game, to say the least. The world itself has multiple continents, and Reddit user jetpacksforall predicts it would take about nine hours to simply run across them all, and that's without stopping. Quests can span multiple continents, and the various modes of transportation still aren't enough to make the game feel small.

All of this space that WoW takes up is full of quests and world events that players get to experience. Beyond the main stories, there's endgame content that keeps players coming back for more, time and time again. There are plenty of ways for every type of gamer to enjoy World of Warcraft, and even Pokemon fans can find common ground in the Pet Battling system

There's so much content in WoW that as of 2018, only 11 people had completely, 100% finished the game. Even with all the content available, the game does a great job at pulling you through. The sheer amount of quests never quite seem overwhelming.

A thriving community

Despite its age, World of Warcraft sees millions of players daily, making it the number-one MMORPG on the market. While some of these players have been playing the game for years, there are plenty of new players joining all the time. There are plenty of updated beginner guides as well as an entire subreddit called Wow Noob. Basically, even if you're just starting, you won't be the only one.

In fact, WoW has its own in-game communities that allow you to voice chat and play with others. These communities are known for being welcoming and noob-friendly. World of Warcraft isn't as toxic as many online games cane be, and there are friendly players left and right, especially when you're in the early areas of the game.

While you're always going to run into at least one toxic player in an online setting, you probably won't find as many in WoW. Finding a group to play with isn't difficult since there are so many players, and it's easy to find people who you can connect with on some level. There has never been a better time to join the fun.
