Star Wars: Rogue One New International Trailer Reveals More Clues
Even after all the previously released trailers and subsequent analysis of nearly every second of footage, there still might be a lot we didn't realize about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
A new international trailer was released this week, and it features a few new shots, another quick glimpse of Darth Vader, and one significant detail that will likely play a part in the storyline.
In addition to seeing the Death Star in action and hearing Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) finally refer to the massive weapon by its name, the biggest reveal in the new trailer comes during a scene from Erso's childhood. We see a woman (probably her mother) give her a necklace with a clear crystal, as she tells Jyn to "trust the Force."
As Wired points out, the gem is likely a kyber crystal, the mineral used to create lightsabers, and the raw material the Empire uses to create the main weapon on the Death Star. If that's what the crystal really is, it would be the first time we see one in a Star Wars flick. And because Jyn hangs onto the necklace into adulthood, there's also a chance it could prove to be hugely important.
But considering that Jyn is orphaned as a child, eventually winds up in prison, and is eventually tasked with saving the Rebellion, she seems pretty optimistic. At the end of the trailer, she says, "We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."
Rogue One lands in theaters December 16. Check out everything we think we know about it and Star Wars mysteries the movie might answer.
