Trainspotting 2: Watch The Frantic, NSFW First Trailer
What the world needs now is more Trainspotting.
Two decades after the original flick became a global phenomenon and turned director Danny Boyle and star Ewan McGregor into Hollywood A-listers, the gang is back for T2 Trainspotting. Watch the fast-paced and definitely NSFW trailer above.
Loosely based on Irving Welsh's 2002 sequel novel Porno, the movie reunites McGregor's Mark Renton with Sick Boy (Johnny Lee Miller), Begbie (Robert Carlyle), Spud (Ewen Bremmer), and Diane (Kelly Macdonald). Boyle is also back in the director's chair, again working from a script by John Hodge.
According to the official synopsis, the film picks up 20 years after we last left the drug-fueled group and a lot has changed. Renton returns to "the only place he can ever call home," but he can't seem to escape the demons of his youth: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction, and mortal danger.
The first movie grossed about $72 million and Hodge received an Oscar nomination for the screenplay.
According to Deadline, McGregor began shooting the sequel just days after he finished work on his directorial debut, American Pastoral. "I did my last day in the sound mix for American Pastoral on a Friday and I flew to Scotland on a Monday to start on Trainspotting 2, " he said. "It was an extraordinary situation, because we were revisiting Trainspotting and I was playing Renton again, which was great and a joy."
T2 (no relation to Terminator 2: Judgment Day) will hit theaters in the U.S. on Feb. 3, 2017.
