The Open-World Shooter You Never Got To Play On The Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 was once known for the abundance of shooting games that the console had. The Halo series and Call of Duty: Black Ops were all just a small taste of the shooters available. There is one FPS for the Xbox 360 that players might be less acquainted with, and that is sadly because it was never released.

Warhound is a canceled open-world first-person shooter. The game was developed by Techland, the team that brought players the survival game, Dead Island. Warhound was in development in 2007 and was planned to release for the PC and Xbox 360. The biggest focus of the game was freedom to explore different tactics and locations. Warhound was ahead of its time and committed to having an open-world shooter with classic elements of RPG. The game was essentially a crossbreed between Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty.

Warhound was ready to go where no first-person shooter had gone before. And then it went nowhere.

The open-world shooter got shot down

In short, the game was put on pause and never regained momentum.  Blazej Krakowiak, Techland's international brand manager, told Endgadget, "We reached a certain development stage and had to postpone it because of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood." Although production continued on Bound in Blood and eventually Dead Island, Techland remained very quiet about Warhound in the ensuing years.

Gamers who were excited for Warhound never did see the game come back around. Warhound faded away silently. It seems that fans forgot all about the title over the years, which is surprising, considering how revolutionary the game could have been. It would have featured "multiple plotlines," and allowed players to pick their own missions and training regimen, as well as handle their own character's finances. Talk about variety, right?

Warhound really might have changed the landscape of first-person shooters. It could have been The Division of its time, but sadly, the game was instead lost to time.
