Everything You Need To Know About Cyberpunk 2077's Victor Vector

Much has already been said about the customization options for V, the player-controlled protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077, whose body players can personalize to a degree with little precedent (and sometimes unintended consequences). The wide range of choices in the game's character creator is in part a result of its sci-fi setting, since cybernetic and other futuristic body modifications are a given in its cyberpunk-inspired, tech-forward universe.

Another key pillar of Cyberpunk 2077's world is commerce. Naturally, there are a number of businesses in Night City that specialize in technological augmentation. One of the key players in Cyberpunk 2077's cybernetic upgrade industry is Victor Vector, who was first revealed early on in the game's marketing rollout.

Understanding Vector's role, for those who have yet to meet him in the game, requires some basic knowledge of certain in-universe lore details. Some originated in Cyberpunk 2020, the game's source material, and others are doled out over the course of Cyberpunk 2077's story. So, how does Vector fit into everything?

A ripperdoc is a doctor who rips, but not (necessarily) in the rock 'n' roll way

Victor Vector works as a "ripperdoc," a profession that serves a key role in Cyberpunk 2077's character customization over the course of the game. Ripperdocs install cybernetic prostheses, collectively known as cyberware, into paying customers' bodies. Though the procedure is legal, some –- like Victor Vector -– operate illegally to supply illicit upgrades, such as military-grade gear.

To hide his business from all those but trusted customers, Vector works in a secret workshop located behind a store that sells new age paraphernalia called Misty's Esoterica, owned and operated by Misty Olszewski, another significant NPC.

Vector's workshop can be found in the Watson District, which is a key location in Night City, given that it's both the zone where V begins their journey and the location of their apartment. Due to both characters' proximity, it's not surprising, then, that it's revealed early on that V and Vector first met one another prior to the start of Cyberpunk 2077's story.

Who is Victor Vector?

Victor Vector is one of multiple ripperdocs in Night City. They all, including Vector, can provide V with cyberware upgrades for a price at the player's discretion. Since Vector is an acquaintance of V's, he functions as a story NPC from early on in Cyberpunk 2077. As the focal point of a quest simply titled "The Ripperdoc," V's first in-game meeting with Vector doubles as an introduction to the game's cyberware system.

If Victor Vector seems familiar, it's probably not due to a forgotten trip to the seedy underbelly of Night City, but one of his voice actor, Michael Gregory's, numerous, prior acting roles. His credits consist of notable roles in live-action movies like bloody classic RoboCop, in which he played the villainous Lt. Hedgecock, and voice acting roles in both animated TV shows and video games. These include anime series like Cowboy Bebop and Serial Experiments Lain, as well as games like Dota 2 and Dragon Age: Origins.
