What Oscar Isaac Would Look Like As Solid Snake From Metal Gear Solid

Oscar Isaac is an exceedingly busy man. In the wake of the oft-contentious Star Wars sequel trilogy, Isaac has sailed beyond the galaxy far, far away to become Gomez Addams in the new animated Addams Family film, Duke Leto Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's Dune, and he's also set to star in the Marvel Disney+ series Moon Knight.

Despite all those exciting projects, its the latest bit of casting news that has fans of Isaac really excited. Recently, Deadline reported that the actor is set to take on the role of Solid Snake for a film adaptation of Hideo Kojima's iconic video game franchise Metal Gear Solid.

The original Metal Gear game dates all the way back to 1987. Exactly 20 years later, in 2007, we first heard reports that a Metal Gear Solid movie was coming via Ghost Rider producer Michael De Luca. Since 2014, Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been attached to direct, but nothing gets people excited like casting news.

People are so excited, in fact, that a mock-up of what Isaac might look like as Solid Snake is already making the rounds.

Was Oscar Isaac destined to play Solid Snake?

Metal Gear Solid is one of those franchises where getting an adaptation right feels almost too scary to attempt. Not only is there an infamously long list of failed attempts at adapting video game characters to the big screen, but there's also so much within the Metal Gear pantheon to parse. Even if you only deal with the five numbered entries in the Metal Gear Solid series, there's so much weirdness and so many characters to deal with that it almost feels impossible.

And yet, the mock-up of Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake created by artist BossLogic not only does a perfect job of capturing the style of the Metal Gear Solid franchise overall — it was also unleashed onto the world way back in March 2019. That's right, over a year and a half before Isaac was announced for Metal Gear Solid, BossLogic called the shot and was absolutely right.

Yes, there will be a number of hoops left to miraculously jump through before a successful Metal Gear Solid film arrives in theaters, but if someone can so perfectly guess which actor will play Solid Snake that far ahead, maybe Konami and Hideo Kojima can set their Silent Hills-sized conflicts aside and let Metal Gear Solid be the movie fans deserve.
