The Comic That Fans Think Inspired The Mandalorian Season 2

Remember the end of 2019, when the only thing people talked about online was Baby Yoda? It was a simpler time.

Disney+ came onto the streaming scene with a banger of a series in The Mandalorian. It proved to be an instant hit with Star Wars fans, showing a simple tale of a warrior who takes in a child (who looks inexplicably like a baby Yoda) to save it from the remnants of the Empire. Last we left these characters, Mando had taken Baby Yoda on the run, but he's not quite in the clear yet. Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) is still out there, so expect him to pop up as the central antagonistic force during season 2, which is set to debut on Disney+ this Friday, October 30th, 2020.

The Mandalorian season 2 trailer gave us a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming season, and it looks like our central characters have plenty of shady figures on their tail even besides the mysterious Gideon. It remains to be seen what exactly where the new episodes will take us, but one Redditor has an idea of a story arc we might see, and it stems from a Star Wars comic book that was released in 2020.

Similarities exist between The Mandalorian and the Star Wars comics

Redditor u/Wycliffe76 points out how some scenes in The Mandalorian trailer bear a striking resemblance to certain panels to the recent Star Wars #5. The comic book doesn't actually deal with Mando and Baby Yoda. Instead, it's a story detailing what Luke Skywalker was up to between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. A vision instructs Luke to find a mysterious woman, who ends up trapping and trying to kill him when she learns he's the son of Darth Vader. It seems like the crew behind The Mandalorian may be adapting elements of this story. They both take place on aquatic worlds with shipping docks, with the protagonist seeking Jedi and winding up trapped in rising water on a boat.

It's hard to deny how similar the storylines appear on the surface. While this plotline likely makes up just a single episode of The Mandalorian, it's intriguing to consider how the mysterious woman (played by Sasha Banks) could factor into season 2 as a whole. If she's Force-sensitive, then perhaps she holds the key to guiding the Mandalorian to where he can deliver the Child to its family.

Luckily, we won't have to wait much longer until we get more answers as to who the Child is and what the Mandalorian's endgame will be. Season 2 debuts on Disney+ on October 30th, 2020.
