The Internet Is Freaking Out About The Boys Spin-Off Series
The Boys is already getting its own spin-off.
Shortly into its second season, the powers that be at Amazon Studios have greenlit a second series based on the anti-superhero epic, which is no surprise considering how successful the first one's become in such a short amount of time. According to an exclusive report from Variety, the spin-off will focus on a college populated by young adult superheroes, and is being described as "...part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys." The flagship series has already been renewed for a third season after earning its own after-show hosted by Aisha Tyler, so there should be plenty of The Boys content streaming on Amazon for years to come.
The Boys writer Craig Rosenberg, who also serves as an executive producer, will serve as showrunner and executive producer on this still-unnamed spin-off. The Boys' creator, Erik Kripke, will produce alongside Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
In the aftermath of The Boys' enormously successful second season — which Variety reports (via Amazon) broke the streaming service's record for the largest global launch and represented 89% growth over the the season 1 viewership metrics — this news definitely isn't shocking, but it is exciting. After word came down that Amazon was fast-tracking the spin-off, fans took to the Internet to celebrate, speculate, and offer their services. Fans are already pretty excited about The Boys' upcoming spin-off
Fans of The Boys have taken to Twitter with their enthusiasm for this new series, and some, like @AmandaTheJedi, are already throwing their hat into the ring where casting is concerned. She writes, "Hello @amazon this is me officially putting my name in the casting hat for the potential The Boys spin off. I am an idiot with no experience but I have spirit."
@TheGregoryE expressed his glee at the idea of a spin-off as well as his frustration over the fact that the media doesn't talk about The Boys more, tweeting, "That Boys spin-off news is no surprise. I heard the first episode of season 2 was the biggest episode/piece of content EVER on Amazon. Somehow the show is massive, but non-genre media and the industry are ignoring it despite fantastic performances and shockingly timely storylines."
Meanwhile, even some of the crew behind The Boys got in on the action. Co-executive producer Darick Robertson chimed in, amazed: "I never thought I'd read this about something I helped create: 'It is being fast-tracked in light of the success of the original series' second season which marked the most-watched global launch of an Amazon Original series ever.'"
There's no other details available on The Boys' spin-off just yet, including its title, but there's still plenty of reason to be excited about more adventures in this twisted, risky world. Season 2 of The Boys airs weekly on Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
