Where Is The Umbrella Academy Located?

Contains spoilers for The Umbrella Academy season 2.

The second season of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy once again sees the dysfunctional Hargreeves family in dire straits. On top of escaping the apocalyptic finale of season 1 by the skin of their teeth, the superpowered adopted siblings must now adjust to life in the early 1960s ... as well as a brand new crew of enemies and yet another impeding apocalypse. Some families just can't catch a break.

The bulk of season 2 takes place in Dallas, shortly before President John F. Kennedy's assassination. This means that the Hargreeves are fighting on away turf, as well as in a completely wrong time. Of course, that statement begs the question: Where, exactly, is their home turf? The show hasn't explicitly stated the geographical location of the Umbrella Academy's mansion, but the eagle-eyed viewer might notice that The Umbrella Academy season 2 actually dropped a pretty big easter egg about this very thing roughly halfway through the season. Let's see if this fresh, new information helps us uncover the location of the Umbrella Academy.

A season 2 scene reveals the Umbrella Academy's location

During episode 5 of The Umbrella Academy season 2, "Valhalla," Luther (Tom Hopper) tells Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Diego (David Castañeda) of a particularly low point in his life. After finding himself stranded in the 1960s without his siblings, the shaken, disheveled and very pointedly unshowered Number One manages to scrounge up (mostly) enough petty cash to afford the bus from Dallas to the Umbrella Academy or, at that point, simply the home of Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore). Luther intended to explain his time travel situation to his future adoptive father, but the plan turned out to be a disaster, as Sir Reginald immediately dismissed him as a smelly, ape-like vagabond, adding insult to injury by stating that he despised children and refusing to accept the fact that he would one day adopt seven of them.

Though the experience was awful for Luther, his detour was actually pretty handy for the observant viewer. During the trip, we see Luther's bus traveling across a map, beginning in Dallas and finally fading out somewhere before Indianapolis. To be precise, the map seems to fade out in Terre Haute, Indiana, and the very next thing we see is the bus stopping, with Luther stepping out and stating: "Home." So, it looks like the in-universe Umbrella Academy is located somewhere around Terre Haute or Indianapolis, or at least in some fictional town located in the same general area. Or ... is it called the Sparrow Academy now?

Where is the Umbrella Academy located in real life?

None of the seven members of the Umbrella Academy are particularly well-adjusted members of society, with the possible exception of Ben (Justin H. Min), who's dead in the show's main timeline. Still, at least they had a fairly sweet crib. The Umbrella Academy mansion is pretty much the ultimate spooky old house, perfect for kids of all ages to sneak around and roam ... or rather, it would be if it wasn't for the authoritarian discipline of the place's super-rich owner.

Of course, it's unlikely that you can actually visit the interiors of the Umbrella Academy, unless you have access to the soundstage where the shows' Emmy-winning production and set teams put it together. If you're ever in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, you can take a peek at the entrance of the building, per Atlas of Wonders. The building block that serves as the cobbled-together mansion's exterior is located on 4 King Street East, though don't expect it to look exactly like the CGI-enhanced version in the show. Oh, and if you want to visit the iconic courtyard from the first season's funeral scene, you'll have to visit the Joey & Toby Tanenbaum Opera Center in Toronto.
