The Boys Hit With Another Round Of Amazing News

Everything's coming up Boys.

At the official San Diego Comic-Con@Home panel for The Boys, Amazon Studios' hit superhero show based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comics of the same name, it was announced that the series has scored a third season.

The news comes over a month ahead of The Boys season 2's release date; the new batch of episodes, co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, will hit Amazon Prime Video on September 4.

The Boys showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke excitedly confirmed the news in a statement — also revealing that he and the series' writers are already getting to work on new scripts, which will take inspiration from the ongoing oddities of the current real world. As of this writing, the tentative filming start date for The Boys season 3 is sometime in early 2021, barring any complications presented by a production-altering virus that shall not be named.

"Amazon, in a bold and historic push to expand their 'weirdo' demographic, has greenlit season 3 of The Boys! The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer's room and we're sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that's up to a microscopic virus," Kripke said. "Seriously, thanks to Sony, Amazon, and the fans. We love making this show so much, and we're thrilled we get to make more."

Added Amazon Studios' co-head of television Vernon Sanders, "Eric Kripke and the incredible cast of The Boys continue to deliver a wild and action-packed series full of surprises and can't-miss moments that have made the series a global hit. We couldn't be more excited to see where Eric takes the Boys and the Supes in season 3."

The president of Sony Pictures Television, Jeffrey Frost, also made an intriguing promise about The Boys season 3: "The Boys is unlike any other show on television. It's incredibly entertaining and compelling and elevates genre programming to a whole new level. We're very excited about season 3 as we know Eric Kripke and this incredibly talented cast are going to raise the bar even higher."

The Boys is also getting a special aftershow, hosted by Aisha Tyler

As if that wasn't exciting enough, in addition to The Boys nabbing a third season, the series is also getting its own aftershow — hosted by none other than Emmy-winner Aisha Tyler, a self-professed fan of The Boys

The prolific host and actress (you probably recognize her from Friends) — who even moderated the Boys' Comic-Con@Home panel — will serve as the host and executive producer of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Each aftershow installment will feature Tyler and various cast members, creatives, and secret special guests as they dig deep into the blood and guts of each new episode of The Boys. Best of all? Fans won't have to wait for season 3 to experience Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys – the aftershow will accompany the show beginning with season 2.

"The Boys is one of the smartest, most irreverent, unapologetically badass shows streaming. I became a fan during season 1, and this season, I'm stoked to be flying fans into the heart of the show as host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys," said Tyler in a statement. "Season 2 is bigger, badder, and more audacious than ever before, so join me after every episode as we dig through the rubble pile of our feelings. I promise, we'll get through it like The Boys — dysfunctional, but together."

Catch season 2 of The Boys on Amazon Prime Video on September 4.
