Why Fans Are Freaking Out Over The Boys Season 2

The Boys season 2 is approaching us as fast as A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and the first season's ending made it clear that Hughie (Jack Quaid), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are going to have their work cut out for them. The Boys' campaign against Homelander (Anthony Starr) and the rest of the Seven has only just started, and judging by the bones everyone already has to pick with each other, it looks like season 2 fully intends to put the pedal right through the metal.

The season 1 ending made it pretty clear that The Boys' sophomore season will see the Seven work with the military, and we also know that the show will introduce us to an ominous new character called Stormfront, played by You're the Worst's Aya Cash. On June 30, Amazon Prime gave us a new exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming season, and if the fans weren't excited before, they sure are now. Here's why fans are freaking out over The Boys season 2.

The Boys season 2 seems to have a heavier focus on Black Noir

Yep, Amazon Prime just dropped an exclusive three-minute clip of The Boys season 2 on YouTube, and the fans are really, really happy with what they see. The clip features Mr. Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), the chilling CEO of Vought International who we briefly met in the season 1 finale, possibly teasing a heavily expanded role for himself.

Perhaps even more importantly, though, it appears that the upcoming season will be considerably darker than the first. The majority of the clip is devoted to a scene that shows the least talkative member of the Seven, Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), on a wetwork mission in Syria. Black Noir brutally and graphically assassinates a number of local guards before his true target is revealed: He's there to take care of Naqib, the explosion-powered terrorist Supe who was introduced to us during the endgame of season 1. It turns out that Naqib isn't exactly going to contend for the position of the season's big bad, because one short superpowered confrontation and one decapitation later, Black Noir is successful in his mission. He even finds the time to clumsily comfort a young boy with a toy bunny, proving that he's not all murder and mayhem.

What the fans are saying about The Boys season 2

The cool, mysterious Black Noir played an extremely small role over season 1, so understandably, fans are utterly delighted to see him in the spotlight. "This clip has more Black Noir in it than the 1st season," YouTube user Yashpal Yadav comments, pointing out the character's lack of screen time so far. User Coach RD concurs that it's high time for the character to step into the spotlight, saying, "This season is definitely the time for Black Noir to shine."

Giancarlo Esposito's character receives a hefty share of praise as well, and many people are delighted to note that Mr. Edgar seems to share some similarities with the actor's famous role in Breaking Bad. As YouTube commenter Felipe Neves puts it, "I love that even if Esposito is playing a character very similar to Gus [Fring], he still manages to make him feel different while still retaining that 'Ice Cold' persona."

Though it remains to be seen how indicative this dark and bloody exclusive clip will be of the rest of The Boys season 2, it seems pretty clear that the fans will be plenty happy if there's more of the same in store for them.

The Boys season 2 will premiere on Friday, September 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
