Star Wars: Rogue One Deploys First TV Spot

We're getting much closer to galaxy far, far away.

Disney unveiled the first TV trailer for the upcoming Star Wars anthology flick Rogue One, and although it doesn't feature much in the way of new footage, it's still bound to give you chills. Watch it above.

The movie centers on reluctant rebel Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and the TV spot teases the film's place as a prequel with the line "Hope begins with rebellion," which sets up the events of Episode VI: A New Hope (1977).

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the upcoming standalone film will be the first in the Star Wars universe, and it removes many of the trademark elements of the franchise (like the Skywalkers) in favor of a darker exploration of other parts of the rich Star Wars mythology.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens Dec. 16, and will be followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017, the Han Solo anthology movie in 2018 and Episode IX in 2019. A the third Star Wars Anthology film is set for 2020.
