Star Wars Theory Ties Rey To A Huge Villain

Despite taking place in a galaxy far, far away, the Star Wars movie universe sure is a small world. Seems like everyone is secretly related to one of the galaxy's biggest villains, and a new theory suggests that Rey, the central character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015),  is the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine.

YouTube user Vincent Vendetta posted an intriguing video that makes connections between the mysterious heroine played by Daisy Ridley and the legendary Sith Lord from the original series. First, he points out that Rey's opening move when she battle Kylo Ren is the same forward thrust Palpatine unloads against Mace Windu and the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith (2005). He also speculates that the voice that told Rey to kill Kylo Ren must have been the powerful Palpatine.

The video says theory about Rey being the daughter of Luke Skywalker is too obvious and her royal DNA would explain how Kylo Ren seemed to recognize Rey when he found her in the forest on Starkiller Base.

While Palpatine was a key villain in the previous two Star Wars trilogies, Vader through him into a reactor shaft in Return of the Jedi (1983). We'll probably learn more when Star Wars: Episode VIII is released on Dec. 15, 2017.
