Fear The Walking Dead Releases Teaser Image And New Details

Spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 2

When Fear the Walking Dead returns for its second season, the survivors will be faced with the challenge of existing while separated from each other. But from the ominous look of a new teaser image (and, you know, because it's all a prequel to The Walking Dead), it won't exactly be a leisurely stroll through a zombie-free park.

AMC unveiled the image just as showrunner Dave Erickson dropped a few key hints about the upcoming season to Entertainment Weekly. "The big question for the back half [of season 2] is when and how will the family reunite?" he said. The interesting thing will be watching them splinter off in multiple directions and seeing how each group can survive and what they do to find their place in the apocalypse."

In particular, Erickson  talked about the journey for Nick (Frank Dillane). "He wants to find a place where people see the dead the way he does, where people see the dead not as a threat, not as a danger, but as an extension of themselves – sort of an evolution," Erickson said. But don't expect a happy ending. "When he actually gets to a place with some degree of spiritual comfort for him. It's not going to last very long."

Fear the Walking Dead returns Aug. 21 on AMC.
