The Walking Dead Spin-Off Series Teaser Introduces Teen Heroes Living In A New World
Welcome to a whole new world of The Walking Dead.
AMC has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming (and still untitled) Walking Dead spin-off series set to premiere in the spring of 2020.
Though short at 37 seconds in length and incredibly vague given its lack of concrete plot details, the teaser for the spin-off is intriguing. It introduces viewers to a new group of heroes: teenagers who grew up after the zombie apocalypse that kicked off the original Walking Dead series, who have known nothing but safety and security in reinforced communities far away from any impending danger. We meet Alexa Mansour as Hope, Nicolas Cantu as Elton, Aliyah Royale as Iris, Hal Cumpston as Silas, and Annet Mahendru as Huck — all of whom have decided to venture outside of their homes to discover the "truth" of who they are and "what the world really is."
As the teaser tells us, there are things that have been going on in the Walking Dead universe that we haven't yet been privy to — things that have unraveled since the beginning of the story, spanning several years in places not yet seen on the small screen and featuring people who are strangers to us. The footage teases that the new series will feature "the dead we haven't seen," and that sites of chaos, death, and destruction have become places open to exploration in this new world.
What exactly the upcoming Walking Dead series is about, we don't know. In any case, this teen-focused project will probably spell success for AMC by targeting a key demographic that could make up for the slipping ratings the flagship Walking Dead show has experienced over the years. It's also not the only spin-off project that AMC is working on, as the network is tinkering away at three (yes, three) films centered on Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes. So fear not — if this Walking Dead series ends up being not quite your cup of tea, there's more franchise content coming down the pipeline soon.
In the meantime, look forward to catching the Walking Dead spin-off series on AMC in spring 2020.
