Fear The Walking Dead Renewed For Season 6, Reveals Season 5B Trailer And New Cast Members

Fear not, Fear the Walking Dead fans — the AMC series is here to stay.

A spin-off of the flagship show that made zombie-killing apocalypse survivors part of viewers' weekday routine, Fear the Walking Dead scored a season 6 renewal at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

The announcement happened during the show's panel on Friday, when franchise architect Scott M. Gimple stated plainly that the show "is returning for a season six," and was subsequently confirmed in a tweet shared by the official Twitter account for Fear the Walking Dead

Other exciting drops to come out of the Fear the Walking Dead Comic-Con panel? A midseason trailer for the series' currently airing fifth installment and confirmations of a handful of cast additions.

Shown up above, the footage teases the return of Fear the Walking Dead for the second half of season 5, which will kick off with a shaky-cam episode that follows the group in a collection of confessional vignettes filmed by Maggie Grace's video journalist character Althea. The action picks up following the events of the midseason finale, "Is Anybody Out There?" — which (spoiler alert) saw the group escape a nuclear plant decimation — and will explore how Alycia Debnam-Carey's Alicia is dealing with life after being exposed to the blood of a radiation-contaminated Walker.

Joining the cast (that already includes Danay Garcia, Austin Amelio, Jenna Elfman, Rubén Blades, Karen David, and Alexa Nisenson) for Fear the Walking Dead season 5 are Jessica Jones and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Colby Minifie, The Americans actor Peter Jacobson, and newcomer Colby Hollman (via Deadline).

If there's one thing that AMC's back-to-back Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead presentations at this year's edition of SDCC have proven is that the franchise isn't going anywhere anytime soon. With season 10 of the flagship series set for release on October 6, the first in a trilogy of Rick Grimes movies heading to theaters in the near future, a third Walking Dead series underway with its main cast already in place, and now the season 6 renewal of Fear the Walking Dead, the world of zombies and the people who face off against them is clearly only getting bigger.

Fear the Walking Dead returns for season 5B on August 11. AMC hasn't stamped the series' sixth season with a release date just yet.
