The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 Release Date Revealed

Mark those calendars — Mrs. Maisel is making a comeback.

On Wednesday, Amazon released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the Emmy-and-Golden Globe-winning series starring Rachel Brosnahan as the housewife-turned-comedian Miriam "Midge" Maisel.

Not only does the footage give viewers a peek into Midge's life following her breakout performance at the Gaslight Cafe and the consequences her decisions have on those around her, but the trailer also reveals when The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fans can see the new storylines unravel: December 5.

As hinted at in the trailer, Midge's rise to fame won't be easy, and climbing the ladder to become the comic she truly wants to be will bring her trial after tribulation — particularly as she feels more and more pressure to admit to her family and friends what she does after her daytime shift as a switchboard operator ends. Midge's manager Susie (Alex Borstein) will stick by her side and help her stay on a trajectory to stand-up comedy stardom, navigate the consequences of her "takedown" of fellow comic Sophie Lennon (Jane Lynch), and continue to cope with her estranged husband and aspiring comedian Joel (Michael Zegen) leaving her for his secretary.

"One year ago, my old life ended and my new life began," Brosnahan's Midge says at the start of the trailer, signaling that there will be a time jump between the first and second season. Later on, Midge sets the tone for the new episodes and makes an observation that resonates even today, 60 years after the year in which the series is set: "Men in general run around telling everyone that only men are funny. Comedy is fueled by disappointment and humiliation. Now who the hell does that describe more than women?"

Season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is sure to be a treat for fans and a triumph for Amazon — and if it's every bit as good as season 1, the series just might take home another Golden Globe and a slew of Emmys during the 2019 awards season.

Until The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns to Amazon for its second season on December 5, sit back, take in the smell of cheap beer that Midge loves so much, and cross your fingers that Midge will get a chance to reveal her secrets soon.
