New Daredevil Season 3 Poster Revealed

Daredevil is back in black.

Marvel has just unveiled a brand-new poster for the highly anticipated third season of Daredevil, teasing that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock will embark on a dark, dangerous journey in the upcoming episodes.

The one-sheet, uploaded to the Marvel Entertainment Twitter account on Wednesday, shows Matt's red Daredevil costume being burnt away, revealing the black suit he wore in the series' freshman season underneath it. Displayed at the top of the poster are the words "let the devil out" — a clear sign that the Man without Fear will move away from his identity as a bonafide superhero who wears sleek suits and embrace his original status as a gritty vigilante who keeps a watchful eye (not literally, since Matt's, you know, blind) over the streets of Hell's Kitchen.

Costume designer Liz Vastola previously explained the meaning behind Matt ditching the red suit and hopping into a black get-up, sharing with Marvel.com that the darker costume represents where Matt's mind is at in season 3.

"At the end of Marvel's Defenders, you leave Matt in a real state, in his current [Daredevil] suit. Over the course of this season we move away from that for him, and we go back to something for Matt that is much more along the lines of his first season look. It's kind of psychological. It's where he's at this this moment. It kind of brings to light the character's own feelings about who he is and who Daredevil is, and what that suit represents for him," Vastola said.

Matt's new look, in Vastola's eyes, is "closer to the sort of underground, street urchin" and is "a little bit more elemental, and a little more visceral," which mirrors the "very visceral and violent action [that gives] him what he needs in order to go out into the world." And since Matt is in a darker place in the third season of Daredevil and will stay on the "down-low" and lurk in the shadows, he's naturally going to be much less flashy than he was in the second season that saw him in his candy apple red costume. Thus, he wears the black suit.

"We went back to that because it makes the most sense. He has assistance from certain characters to help him dress himself this season and to help him stay in the shadows, to feel darker but also using the bare minimum," explained Vastola.

While Matt will shed the suit that launched him into the public eye, the red costume won't be entirely missing from season 3. As detailed in the latest trailer for the new season, a copycat vigilante known as Bullseye, played by Wilson Bethel, will don the shiny suit and cause some major chaos as he masquerades as Daredevil. Not only will Matt have to bring an end to Bullseye and clear his name with the people of Hell's Kitchen, he must also avoid the wrath of Wilson Fisk, portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio, who was recently released from jail and is now out for blood.

Watch Matt Murdock let the devil out when Daredevil season 3 hits Netflix on October 19.
