Yellowjackets' Sophie Nélisse Accidently Took Home Part Of Jackie

Contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" Season 2, Episode 2.

The cannibalism in "Yellowjackets" is officially in full swing with Season 2. After revealing in the pilot episode that the girls soccer team trapped in the wilderness would eventually resort to cannibalism, the series paid off that promise with Season 2, Episode 2, "Edible Complex," in which the girls feast on Jackie (Ella Purnell) after their attempt to cremate her is cut short by snow falling onto the fire — thus resulting in a roasted body that the girls can't help but consume. But prior to the feast, Jackie's best friend Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), who had been talking to Jackie's corpse as a way to cope with the grief, had already had a taste of Jackie in the form of her ear.

In the Season 2 premiere, Shauna accidentally knocks over Jackie's frozen dead body, resulting in her ear breaking off. Shauna merely puts the ear in her pocket to hold on to, but then, in the final shot of the episode, she eats it.

As it turns out, Jackie's ear ended up in Nélisse's real pocket as well, resulting in the actress accidentally taking it home with her. In an interview with Esquire, Nélisse explained, "We did the scene. I put it back in my pocket. Then, months later, I was going through my pocket and I was like, 'What is this weird squishy thing? Oh my god, it's the ear.'"

Nélisse decided to keep the ear hidden away

After finding Jackie's ear, which was made by the props department out of stretchy silicone, Sophie Nélisse opted to keep it at home instead of returning it to props. After all, they had already filmed the ear-eating scene months earlier.

On finding the perfect place to keep the ear, Nélisse told Esquire, "I have it hidden in my room. It'd be a bit of a red flag if someone came into my room and there's this whole little ear on my countertop. So, it's hidden away in a little souvenir box."

While the ear may have been made out of silicone, Nélisse revealed that there are things — although she didn't reveal what — that the Yellowjackets eat later on in the season that the props department used gummy bears to make. But despite the snacks being made out of candy, Nélisse's job wasn't exactly made easier given the nature of the show. The actress revealed, "They're actually so tasty, but they look so real and gooey and gross that our brains can't really disassociate and step back away from it. It feels disgusting eating it—even though it's actually quite yummy. It's literally a giant gummy bear."
