HotD Fans Think Team Green's Characters Give Them An Edge Over Team Black

The "Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon" really boils down to one central conflict between two groups struggling for the Iron Throne. In one corner there are the Blacks, who are led by the one-time heir to the throne, Princess Rhaeneyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), her brother-lover Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and her allies by marriage, House Velaryon. In the other corner are the Greens, led by their new heir Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney), his mother Alicent (Olivia Cooke), her father Ser Otto (Rhy Ifans), and the various knights and nobles they coerced into joining the cause.

Sure, fans can watch "House of the Dragon" without choosing sides, but it's so much more fun to root for the Blacks over the Greens, or vice-versa. Plenty of fans are doing just that. Even though the Greens would be traditionally seen as the "villains" of the story, depending upon whom you ask, many Westeros-heads still pull for them anyway. Recently, Redditor u/SRV1981 asked their fellow "House of the Dragon" fans to explain why they support Team Green. The thread got more than 1,000 responses, but many of them boiled down to the same reason: because Team Green is more fun to watch.

Team Green might be despicable, but at least they're entertaining

One Reddit user had to admit that even though they want Team Black to win for the good of Westeros, Team Green is more compelling. "[Team Black has] Rhaeneyra, Daemon, Rhaenys, & Corlys. [Team Green] has Alicent, Aegon, Aemond, Otto, Helaena, Larys, & Criston. The last two are the most horrible people on the show but still fun to watch," they wrote.

That Redditor is definitely spot on when they say that Team Green is packed with characters who many would consider despicable. They're right to single out Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) and Ser Criston (Fabien Frankel) in particular, the former of whom burned his own father and older brother to death in order to inherit his noble house, and the latter of whom murdered the defenseless Lord Lyman Beesbury (Bill Paterson) in full view of the Small Council, among many other misdeeds. Some fans even think Criston Cole is too evil to live.

Plenty of fans agreed with that Reddit user, though. "I am here for intrigues and drama, and [Team Green provides] both," wrote u/Visible_Writing7386. "After 34 years on this earth, I can admit to myself that ultimately, I'm just all about the drama," agreed Redditor u/live4lax25. "Which is why I'm Team Green. I just wanna watch the world burn," agreed another Redditor.

Without giving too much away, let's just say that how the Dance of the Dragons plays out will give fans even more to debate.
