Andrew Garfield Makes For A Fiery Human Torch In Glowing Fan Art

When the Walt Disney Company purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019, the move brought with it numerous sweeping changes to the entertainment landscape. For Marvel fans specifically, it meant that a plethora of beloved heroes and villains previously owned by Fox were now available to join Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the years since, some of these names have made their way to the multimedia franchise, but there are numerous heavy hitters that still need to make their MCU debuts. Chief among them are the members of the iconic comic book team, the Fantastic Four.

At the time of this writing, only one Fantastic Four member has appeared in the MCU. Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards — as portrayed by John Krasinski — popped up in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," though this proved little more than a quick cameo. Not only did he meet a brutal death, but he was a variant from Earth-838, meaning the main MCU Richards has yet to be shown. Otherwise, Ben "Thing" Grimm, Susan "Invisible Woman" Storm, and Johnny "Human Torch" Storm haven't appeared in the franchise in any way.

The Fantastic Four will join the MCU in due time in their own movie, but what should the cast look like? Well, based on this piece of fan art, Marvel movie alum Andrew Garfield could make for an excellent Human Torch.

Garfield could light up the big screen as the Human Torch

In October 2020, Instagram user @ultraraw26 posted an incredible mock-up of what Andrew Garfield could look like as the MCU's Human Torch. As seen above, it depicts Garfield's Johnny Storm mid-transformation, giving fans an idea of what the character could look like in a classic-inspired blue, white, and black jumpsuit, as well as in his "flame on" form. There's even a hint of blond in his hair to honor his comic book counterpart. Overall, he certainly looks the part, and given Garfield's acting range, one has to imagine he'd play the pompous, hot-headed Storm perfectly.

Of course, if Garfield were to take on the role of the Human Torch, he'd be double-dipping in the MCU. After his second and final outing as the character in 2014, he famously returned to the role of Spider-Man for 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home." He joined forces with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland's takes on the web-slinger to battle a myriad of iconic villains — something he found to be incredibly special. "It was really, like, brotherhood first, I think. And I think that comes through in what we shot," Garfield told GQ of his team-up with Maguire and Holland and the bond it created.

Andrew Garfield has undeniably made his mark on superhero cinema already, but could he do it again as the MCU's Human Torch? We'll just have to wait and see what "Fantastic Four" has in store.
