Melissa McCarthy Comedy Super Intelligence Gets 2019 Release Date

Melissa McCarthy is delving into artificial intelligence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Bridesmaids star's action comedy Super Intelligence, featuring McCarthy as a former corporate executive whose life is turned upside down when she is selected for a new artificial intelligence program, has set a 2019 Christmas Day release date. 

Super Intelligence sees McCarthy's character, whose life is described as "earnest yet unfulfilled," becoming one of the first people selected for observation by the world's first super-intelligence, which may or may not be prepping to take over the world. The movie will be directed by McCarthy's real-life husband Ben Falcone, who has also directed the star in Tammy, The Boss, and the upcoming college comedy Life of the PartyThe Boss' Steve Mallory wrote the script for the film, which will begin production in July.

Super Intelligence is one of a number of exciting projects McCarthy has planned. The Oscar-nominee is also set to star in the mob drama The Kitchen, opposite Elisabeth Moss and Tiffany Haddish, as well as the puppet mystery The Happytime Murders, which also features Elizabeth Banks, Joel McHale, and Maya Rudolph. McCarthy is also slated for the Lee Israel biopic Can You Ever Forgive Me?, which has an October release date. 

Warner Bros. also set release dates Friday for the Michael B. Jordan death row drama Just Mercy and the as-yet untitled spin-off of The ConjuringJust Mercy will feature Jordan as a man wrongly accused of murder who meets a potential savior while waiting on death row. Short Term 12's Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the movie, which is slated for a Jan. 17, 2020 release date.

Not much is known about the Conjuring spin-off, although there have already been a few successful films based off the horror universe, including the Annabelle films and the upcoming The Nun. The film has been set for a July 3, 2019 opening, which puts it close to competing with Marvel's untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, which has a July 5, 2019 release date.
