Who Plays Aonung In Avatar: The Way Of Water?

In the first "Avatar" film, human Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) falls for a Na'vi woman named Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), compelling him to abandon his human form altogether and transfer his consciousness into a Na'vi body that once served as his remote avatar. By the start of "Avatar: The Way of Water," Jake and Neytiri are parents to four children, whose safety becomes the prime motivating factor behind effectively every big choice they make throughout the film.

Among those is their decision to uproot their lives from their forest home to a seaside town run by the Metkayina clan. Viewers soon find out that Na'vi raised near the sea differ somewhat in appearance and ability from the forest Na'vi that exclusively factor into the first "Avatar." Among the ways the Metkayina are distinct from Jake, Neytiri, and their children are wider arms and flatter tails that function as fins underwater.

When Jake and Neytiri introduce themselves to the Metkayina clan, they must secure the approval of seafaring Na'vi leaders Ronal (Kate Winslet) and Tonowari (Cliff Curtis), who head the village. Complicating matters is the fact that their son Aonung decide to bully Jake and Neytiri's son Lo'ak (Britain Dalton). As it turns out, the teenaged Aonung is portrayed by an actor named Filip Geljo, who notably kicked off his Hollywood career at a young age, still well in his childhood.

Filip Geljo plays Avatar: The Way of Water's Aonung

In "Avatar: The Way of Water," an actor named Filip Geljo plays Aonung, the teenage son of Metkayina leaders Ronal and Tonowari. Geljo, despite his young age seeming to match that of his "Avatar" character, kicked off his acting career eight years prior with a role in a TV movie titled "The Last Chance." The following year, he portrayed a character named Dan in a drama called "The Waiting Room." Dan is the son of a character named Jasmin, based on a real-life actor named Jasmin Geljo. As their names suggest — and as the pair discusses in a video interview with Tribute.ca — Jasmin and Filip Geljo are father and son in real life too.

The role that then went on to define Filip Geljo's career after working with his father on "The Waiting Room" was that of Agent Otto on the educational children's TV series "Odd Squad." Geljo is credited with 41 episodes in total between the show's first two seasons, in addition to both a subsequent film and a sequel series that premiered five years after his "Odd Squad" debut. That follow-up project, titled "Odd Squad: Mobile Unit," is Geljo's most recent credit prior to his addition to the "Avatar" universe. According to his list of upcoming work, "Avatar" will keep him plenty busy moving forward, as Aonung is currently a part of both the third and forth "Avatar" movies slated for 2024 and 2026 respectively.
