Law & Order: SVU Fans Are Buzzing Over Olivia's Powerful Scream

A good scream can be incredibly cathartic. When the weight of the world rests on your shoulders, and you've been dealt more cards than you can handle, sometimes all you can do is let out a primal yell to let everyone else know how fed up you are. Movies and TV know this all too well, and the right scream can send chills down viewers' spines.

This was evident not too long ago when a moment from "Family Guy" went viral on TikTok, with everyone remixing Lois Griffin yelling out her husband's name after he made a terrible mistake (via Polygon). Now, "Law & Order: SVU" has gotten in on the scream trend, with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) letting out a primal yell in the latest episode, "Soldier Up."

In the episode, Benson's on the trail of BX9, and at the end of her rope, she screams out in the woods. The moment was so impactful it was even used in the promo materials for the episode. Now that fans have context, they have a lot of thoughts on the scream and whether it was justified or not.

Fans are split on whether Benson's scream was cool

Olivia Benson has been through a lot during her time on "Law & Order: SVU," but she's rarely shown her emotions like this. It's no wonder the scream took fans by surprise, but they seem pretty mixed on her response. Fans' reactions were pretty positive on Twitter, with many people praising Benson for letting it all out. @mollydollyy wrote, "THAT SCREAM!!! You can feel it in your soul." Meanwhile, @SquashBlossom viewed the scream as cathartic for every woman watching, writing, "And there's the scream. Olivia Benson's battle cry. Warrior woman era, activated."

However, the response was far more muted on Reddit. In a discussion thread for "Soldier Up," many people discussed the scream, with a lot of people thinking it just didn't come across the way the creators of the show wanted it to. Redditor u/masterbrutus24 summed up many people's feelings: "That scream was so cheesy lol." U/Yourappwontletme elaborated on this: "I cracked up. I think it's the way they shot it. Her just standing there. She's not doubled over or anything. Very awkward."

Regardless of how you feel about the scream, it only makes sense for Benson to need to unleash some of her fury once in a while. She goes through a lot in her line of work, so people should be understanding when she needs to let loose a little bit.
