Riverdale: Get Your First Look At Carrie-Themed Musical Episode
Everyone is singing in the first photos from Riverdale's upcoming musical episode. The episode will see Riverdale High taking on Carrie: The Musical, with Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) in the title role.
Casey Cott's Kevin Keller takes on directorial duties for the musical, which will also feature Archie (K.J. Apa) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) as the golden couple Tommy and Sue, Veronica (Camila Mendes) as the school bully Chris, Josie (Ashleigh Murray) as the gym teacher Miss Gardner, and Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) as Carrie's mother, Margaret White.
The episode is set to feature 11 songs from the cult hit musical, and nearly all the cast members will get in on the musical action. Jughead, however, will be sitting out, with Cole Sprouse noting that he avoided singing for Disney Channel during his time as a child star. However, he'll still have an important part to play in the episode, as he will be filming a behind-the-scenes documentary.
Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a Q&A that he liked the idea of how a school musical played into the show's teen-oriented storylines. "On some level, Riverdale is a crime and a mystery and a pulp show, but there is an element of coming-of-age and of high school, obviously," he said. (via Entertainment Weekly) "And doing the school musical is such a rite of passage that we wanted to do that."
Riverdale's musical episode will air on Wednesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. on The CW. You can view the new photos from the episode (via Entertainment Weekly) below.
