Taran Killam, Leighton Meester To Star In ABC Comedy Pilot Single Parents

Taran Killam, Leighton Meester, and Brad Garrett are teaming up with New Girl's J.J. Philbin and Liz Meriwether for a new ABC comedy pilot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the trio has signed on to lead Single Parents, a single-camera comedy about a group of dysfunctional single parents who use each other for support as they raise their kids.

Killam is best known for his time as a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. His other TV and film roles include 12 Years a Slave, Killing Gunther, Drunk History, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, and The Heat. On Single Parents, he is set to play Will Cooper, a single father who "has forgotten how to be a man."

Meester most recently starred in the FOX comedy series Making History, which was canceled after one season. She is best known for her starring role on the CW series Gossip Girl and has also appeared in The Roommate, That's My Boy, Going the Distance, The Oranges, Monte Carlo, Country Strong, 24, and Veronica Mars. Meester will play Angie, a "scrappy and strong" single mom with an overly-attached son.

Garrett won three Emmys and earned three more nominations for his run on Everybody Loves Raymond. Since the show ended, he has appeared in Music and Lyrics, Ratatouille, 'Til Death, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, The Crazy Ones, Fargo, Finding Dory, and This Is Us. Garrett will play Douglas, a rich and retired country club member who becomes a single dad to twins in his '50s. Douglas is said to have an old school approach to parenting and gender roles.

Philbin and Meriwether co-wrote the script for the show. The pair will wrap their run on their FOX comedy New Girl in April, when it debuts its seventh and final season. Jason Winer (Modern Family) is set to executive produce and direct the pilot, while Katherine Pope (Touch) will also executive produce.
