Counter to the way most franchises operate, the Mission: Impossible series just keeps getting better. Most of the crew is back in the new trailer for Mission: Impossible — Fallout, with Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin and — of course — Tom Cruise reprising their roles alongside newcomers Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett. This time, Ethan Hunt and his gang of spies have to deal with some kind of nuclear threat, and Hunt may have been betrayed…again.
But where the trailer plays coy on plot reveals, it revels in its own self-awareness and glorious stunts. Ving Rhames casually remarks that Ethan Hunt is the "same old Ethan," just before the trailer cuts to Tom Cruise hijacking a helicopter in mid-air and then doing a barrel roll — which, per Cruise tradition, all actually happened. Same old Ethan.
Also worth noting is a stunt that involved Cruise leaping between skyscrapers, breaking his ankle, and then continuing the scene like nothing happened. He just runs away on a broken foot, gotta catch those bad guys. Superman is literally in the movie, and Tom Cruise still manages to out-Superman him. Give this madman an Oscar already.
