The Karate Kid Returns In The First Teaser Trailer For Cobra Kai

Apparently some bullies never learn their lesson; not even after 30 years.

Entertainment Weekly has the first teaser for Cobra Kai, the upcoming Karate Kid sequel series coming to YouTube Red, and it catches us up with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his former enemy Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

The pair first faced off at the All Valley Karate Tournament in 1984's The Karate Kid and then met again two years later in The Karate Kid Part II. But these days, Daniel is a peaceful family man who owns a successful car dealership while Johnny is trying to introduce the heartless ways of the Cobra Kai to a new generation when he reopens the dojo.

"We are not trained to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak," Johnny tells his new pupils in the teaser. Clearly, he didn't see the first two movies.

Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) stars as Miguel Diaz, a victim of high school bullies who's taken under Johnny's wing; Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) plays Johnny's son, Robby Keene, who doesn't want to be anything like his dad; and Ed Asner guest stars as Johnny's stepfather, Sid Weinberg. Courtney Henggeler (Mom) will play Daniel's wife and business partner, while Mary Mouser (Freakish) plays their daughter.

Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) wrote the story for Cobra Kai with Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar). All three will executive produce the series with Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg will also direct much of Cobra Kai, which arrives on YouTube Red later this year.
