Fans Have Reason To Believe This Black Clover Character's Lineage Is Cursed

From 2017 to 2021, the "Black Clover" anime adaptation swiftly became an audience favorite, and it's not hard to determine why. Complete with a fascinating story, visually interesting aesthetic, and no shortage of action, the series based on Yūki Tabata's manga of the same name had a lot going for it throughout its run. Not to mention, "Black Clover" is home to an extensive roster of characters — some good, some evil, and some who are a bit of both — that viewers have either gotten to know well or wish they knew more about.

At the heart of "Black Clover" is Asta (Dallas Reid), who's an anomaly in a society where virtually everyone has magical abilities. Without any natural powers, he trains in other ways to become a strong, formidable potential Wizard King. On the other hand, there's Yuno Grinberryall (Micah Solusod), who's immensely powerful and becomes Asta's chief competitor on his quest to prove himself. As their friendly rivalry unfolds, they clash with a range of opponents and build alliances, building an endlessly entertaining cast of characters overall.

Like most other fictional characters out there, the members of the "Black Clover" roster have become focal points of fan theories. For instance, this one posits that the lineage of a key player is actually cursed. Here's how the fandom reached this conclusion.

Was Asta's mother cursed?

One of the more intriguing elements of "Black Clover" is the true identity of Asta's parents. Raised an orphan, the series reveals that his mother was known as Richita (Felecia Angelle), but we never learn of his true father. A theory posited by Redditor u/Erockplatypus questions if it's none other than Augustus Clover (Sonny Strait) who may have gotten Richita pregnant and didn't want anyone to find out. Therefore, he could've called upon entities capable of doing so to curse her, forcing her to live out her days in isolation so that she wouldn't involuntarily steal the life force of others.

Sadly, the "Black Clover" anime is long over, so it's not likely we'll get a definitive answer to whether Asta is indeed cursed or if this is just another fan theory that falls into the tinfoil hat category. Then again, perhaps the upcoming movie, "Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King," will provide some context. Announced way back in 2021, rumor has it that the film is something of a prequel to the anime that follows a previous Wizard King. At the time of this writing, further details are scarce, but we do know that the long-gestating feature will premiere on Netflix on March 31, 2023.

Plenty of unanswered questions linger in the "Black Clover" anime universe, so one can only hope we won't be left in the dark forever — especially regarding the truth of Asta's family line.
