Joaquin Phoenix Experiences The Profound In Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot Teaser

Amazon Studios wants you to get to know somebody.

Based on the memoir of the same name, Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot stars Joaquin Phoenix as the cartoonist John Callahan, an artist who became paralyzed following a car accident at the age of 21.

Callahan didn't become a cartoonist until after his accident, turning to art as therapy in the aftermath of his injury. Drawing with a pen held between both hands, he adopted a distinctively rough doodle style, drawing misanthropic and acerbic cartoons which occasionally drew boycotts and protests for their perceived political incorrectness.

In addition to Phoenix in the lead role, Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot also stars Jonah Jill, Rooney Mara, and Jack Black, with appearances by Udo Kier, Kim Gordon, and Carrie Brownstein.

The movie is directed by Gus Van Sant, whose recent projects as a director include the Matthew McConaughey-starring The Sea of Trees and the first episode of the TV mini-series When We Rise. Van Sant adapted Callahan's memoir into a screenplay himself, sharing story credit with Jack Gibson and William Andrew Eatman.

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot is one of two movies set for release this year by Amazon Studios starring Phoenix in the lead role, with the Lynne Ramsay-directed hitman movie You Were Never Really Here set to arrive first on April 6. Phoenix is also playing Jesus Christ opposite Rooney Mara in the upcoming Garth Davis movie Mary Magdalene, set for release on March 30.

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot will be released widely on May 11. Check out the first teaser for the movie up above.
