Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Tops MLK Weekend Box Office
It was another good weekend for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle at the box office. The sequel topped a group of new recruits once again, taking first place with an additional $27 million.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle debuted with positive reviews and has since built on that word of mouth to continue bringing in impressive audiences throughout the holiday box office. The film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen GIllan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, currently holds a 75 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Internationally, the movie has brought in an additional $383 million. Second place for the weekend went to Steven Spielberg's The Post, which expanded into wide release and built on its star power and positive reviews for an $18.6 million haul. Third place went to Liam Neeson's latest action flick, The Commuter, which performed slightly above initial $10 million expectations with a $13.4 million debut.
Taraji P. Henson's Proud Mary fared less well, bringing in only $10 million after receiving negative reviews from critics.This weekend's other new release, Paddington 2, also performed below expectations, bringing in only $10 million instead of the expected $16 million. The kids' flick has rapturous reviews from critics and currently sits at a 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The rest of the weekend's top ten were filled out with familiar faces, including last weekend's second place finisher, Insidious: The Last Key, which took in $12 million for fourth place and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which brought in an additional $11.2 million to contribute to a $591.5 million domestic total.
