Patrick Melrose Trailer Shows Benedict Cumberbatch At His Most Boorish
Who knew Benedict Cumberbatch could be so good at being bad?
In the upcoming Showtime and Sky Atlantic joint production Patrick Melrose, Cumberbatch plays the selfish and self-centered title character across several decades of his life, chronicling a life of alcoholism, bad behavior, mental illness, and ultimately, redemption. Check out the full trailer for the show above.
The five-part miniseries is based on a series of novels by Edward St Aubyn, with each episode set to adapt one complete book in the Patrick Melrose series, which is comprised of Never Mind, Bad News, Some Hope, Mother's Milk, and At Last, all written and published between 1992 and 2012.
In addition to Cumberbatch, the miniseries stars Hugo Weaving, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Anna Madeley, Blythe Danner, Allison Williams, Pip Torrens, Jessica Raine, Prasanna Puwanarajah, Holliday Grainger, Indira Varma, and Celia Imrie.
The series comes from director Edward Berger, with scripts for each episode by David Nicholls. It is expected to be out later in 2018. If it looks as interesting to you as it does to us, you can watch the first, shorter, but no less punchy teaser for the series here.
