Bensler Fans Noticed A Very Interesting Casting Detail On Law & Order: SVU And Organized Crime

Season 24 of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and Season 3 of "Law & Order: Organized Crime" have swung into full gear after last week's historic crossover episode. The second episodes of each season have given viewers a taste of where each show is headed, and both are full of new blood.

"SVU" Season 24, Episode 2 ("The One You Feed") introduced Captain Mike Duarte (Maurice Compte) and Detective Grace Muncy (Molly Burnett) to the series, both from the gang unit. While Duarte seems like a one-and-done, it looks like Muncy will be making her way into Special Victims and could be a new full-time cast member.

Over on "Organized Crime," we met Detective Jamie Whelan (Brent Antonello) in Episode 2 ("Everybody Knows the Dice Are Loaded"). He rubs Jet and Stabler the wrong way immediately, but he proves to be a valuable member of the team. It's hinted at briefly in "Organized Crime" and "SVU," but these two new permanent detectives are very reminiscent of a fan-favorite team.

Are Whelan and Muncy the new Olivia and Elliot?

After the "SVU" and "Organized Crime" episodes aired, a fan took to Twitter to share their thought on the night's events. "Is it just me or did Liv & El both get new detectives that are supposed to remind them of their younger selves?" @McWriterEO posted. Detective Muncy and Detective Whelan are definitely some of the youngest in their units and have a lot to learn from Benson and Stabler. "Time to train the new generation. I hate that Rollins is leaving, but Muncy wasn't too bad and really did remind me of younger Liv," the Twitter user continued.

In the comments section of the tweet, many were hoping these mini Stabler and Benson's weren't being brought in to replace their older counterparts. "Are the writers preparing for the olders' departures?"@rpryder asked. There's been no discussion — at least out in the open — about Mariska Hargitay or Christopher Meloni retiring from the "Law & Order" universe, but it's definitely a possibility. We fully expect the duo to come together romantically in the next season or two, and maybe they'll ride off into the retirement sunset together. Whether the shows can survive without them, well, that's another story.
