Stephen Dorff Joins True Detective Season 3

Mahershala Ali's True Detective season 3 co-star has been found. Entertainment Weekly reports that Stephen Dorff is set to star in the upcoming third season of the popular anthology series.

The third season of the show will be set in the Ozarks, with the season playing out over three different time periods in a 30-year search for two missing children. Dorff will play Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator whose life and career is thrown for a loop by the baffling case. Ali will play Wayne Hays, an Arkansas detective, while Carmen Ejogo will play Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas teacher who is connected to the children.

True Detective debuted to massive critical acclaim with its first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. (Both earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for their work.) However, the second season was a little less well-received, with the show failing to recapture the magic of the first season with Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams at the helm.

The third season was long delayed after the performance of the second season, but reports first began to surface early in 2018 that the network was in the early stages of pursuing another outing for the show. Ali's involvement was first revealed in July, while the outing was officially ordered in late August.

Dorff got his start acting in a 1985 episode of The New Leave It To Beaver and has since racked up an impressive number of credits. His notable roles include playing Deacon Frost in 1998's Blade and starring in Immortals, The Power of One, Somewhere, Backbeat, The Motel Life, and Space Truckers. He currently appears on the Fox musical drama Star.

The show's creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the third season of True Detective, with Hill Street Blues' David Milch assisting on the fourth episode. Pizzolatto is also set to direct along with Green Room's Jeremy Saulnier. No premiere date for the show has been set yet.
