Did She-Hulk Episode 6 Just Drop A Deep-Cut Jurassic Park Reference?
The critically acclaimed Disney+ series "She-Hulk" offers viewers a different experience than most MCU titles, full of workplace comedy and fourth-wall breaking that may even give Deadpool a run for his money. But the show has been turning heads for several reasons, including hints at characters that could show up, potential storylines brewing, and the highly sought-after Easter eggs.
The series starring Tatiana Maslany brought back some familiar faces like Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), as well as introduced new personas like Titania (Jameela Jamil). It has also introduced the MCU version of Intelligencia, which in the comics is an organization comprised of very intelligent evildoers (via Marvel), and the version of Daredevil with a yellow costume. The series has not been shy about hinting at all sorts of fascinating things, especially regarding nods and references.
Like most Marvel projects, there are a vast array of Easter eggs in every She-Hulk entry, with some being easier to spot than others. There are several instances where they are only featured for a brief second. An "Eternals" Easter egg and an intriguing nod to Wolverine were very quickly featured in Season 1, Episode 2 ("SuperHuman Law") at the 5:57 mark. There have even been Easter eggs regarding other movies and TV shows like Pixar's "Inside Out" and the series "Ally McBeal." But one moment in Season 1, Episode 6 ("Just Jen") could very well be a nod to the iconic 1993 Steven Spielberg classic "Jurassic Park."
Did She-Hulk forget to say the magic word?
During the briefing with Mr. Immortal's (David Pasquesi) ex-wives, the website Intelligencia is brought up, which is a forum website where users can post all kinds of topics, such as people with powers. When Nikki Ramos (Ginger Gonzaga) and Mallorie Book (Renee Elise Goldsberry) are looking it over, they see a link for She-Hulk. When they try to access it, a login screen promptly tells them, "Uh, uh, uh!"
The last time many people heard that phrase while a character was being denied access was in "Jurassic Park." In the film, Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) locks Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) and John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) out of the system. Whenever they try to get in, an image of Nedry appears, waving his finger and saying, "Uh, uh, uh! You didn't say the magic word" (via YouTube).
That isn't the first time a Disney+ series has snuck in a quick nod to the superbly-crafted motion picture. There were many Easter eggs found throughout "Ms. Marvel," and one could definitely be channeling some serious "Jurassic Park" nostalgia. The sequence where Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is trying to escape from the Clandestines in a banquet hall kitchen in Season 1, Episode 3 ("Destined") appeared to be a reference to the scene where Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazello) and Lex Murphy (Ariana Richards) are being hunted by raptors in the restaurant-sized kitchen (via Twitter).
Marvel's Easter egg game is undeniably strong, and these fun nods, hints, and references add to the fun experience, especially in the Disney+ series "She-Hulk."
