The Woody Woodpecker Trailer Will Haunt Your Dreams
A CGI version of Woody Woodpecker is about to be unleashed, and the trailer might be the most terrifying thing you see today.
Based on the classic cartoon from Walter Lantz's animation studio, the live-action update will pit the precocious woodpecker against an unsuspecting and unfortunate family. According to the synopsis, "the hyper-active red-headed bird enters a turf war with a big city lawyer wanting to tear down his home in an effort to build a house to flip."
You can almost get where Woody is coming from when he starts disrupting the progress. After all, nobody wants their home destroyed. But he quickly becomes a "flying demon" (as that lawyer calls him), and surprisingly adept with the latest technology.
Woody has always been pretty abrasive, but he seems almost sociopathic now. Maybe it's the jarring way the character looks within the live-action world or the cackling voice provided by Eric Bauza. Or maybe it's Woody's shocking disregard for human life. Either way, the movie is definitely meant to be family-friendly, and there's a good chance that 4-year-olds won't be nearly as unnerved.
It's worth noting the movie comes from Alex Zamm, the director of A Christmas Prince. If that title sounds familiar to you, it's probably because it's the movie Netflix publicly mocked people for watching.
Woody Woodpecker will arrive on DVD and digital on Feb. 6, 2018. The apocalypse could arrive soon after.
