Things You Missed In The Daredevil Season 2 Trailer
As we're still left wide-eyed over the amazing trailer for Daredevil season 2, let's breakout the magnifying glass to look at some of its details you may have overlooked. The bullets are flying throughout Hell's Kitchen, as Matt Murdock's vigilante attempts at thwarting organized crime have been interrupted by another would-be crusader, Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. While Daredevil tries to stop the bad guys without resorting to lethal means, Castle openly kills any and every gangster and mafioso in his path. What will happen when Murdock is backed into a corner by the relentless Punisher and the mysterious Elektra? Let's take a good look at Daredevil season 2's trailer and find out.
Entering the house of the Punisher
In the beginning of the trailer, we see a mailbox with the Punisher's last name on it and a house in the background. If you look closely, you can see a woman with long, blonde hair entering the building. This person is likely Frank Castle's wife, Maria, who was also blonde in the previous comic and cinematic versions of the Frank Castle story. We see scenes from inside the house at night, with an unsteady flashlight illuminating the room, focusing on some pictures. This suggests there's some kind of intruder in the house. As most people would just turn on a light, the flashlight is likely being held by a criminal, Daredevil, or even the Punisher himself. You can also see a picture of Frank holding his daughter, who also has blonde hair.
Castle's arsenal is homemade mixed with dead guys' guns
We were a little surprised after seeing Castle open the trunk to his car, only to see that it was filled with a plethora of shotguns and a few rifles. That left us wondering: why would there only be shotguns and rifles in the trunk as opposed to other kinds of firearms? It's likely because this is still early in the Punisher's tenure as a crime fighter, as shotguns and rifles are easier to get over the counter. We then see a table with grenades, an M16 equipped with a grenade launcher, some handguns, and homemade explosives—the Punisher's arsenal is growing. In the comics, Castle tends to collect the guns and weapons of the baddies he takes down, including super villains, so it's likely he started off with some shotguns in his war against criminality and started increasing his collection with each successful bloodbath.
A brutal mob killing
Obviously, the scene with the woman with long hair (presumably Karen Page, Murdock's secretary) holding up the x-ray of a skull is a huge nod towards the Punisher's iconic logo. Perhaps Frank Castle suffered some massive head trauma during the event that claimed his family's lives. It could be an x-ray scan of one of his deceased family members for all we know. If you look past it, there are some photos of what appears to be a bloody crime scene beneath the skull. On the left is a packet of paperwork. This is likely Page pulling up the police files of the Castle family's massacre so she can dig up more dirt on Daredevil's new foe—yes, we said foe.
Daredevil's broken visage
Remember that spiffy new suit Matt Murdock had made in order to fight the Kingpin at the end of season 1? Oh, belated spoiler warning—you shouldn't be reading this article if you haven't watched season 1 yet, right? It looks like that crisp Daredevil suit is getting some miles on it, and we're talking city miles. Murdock gets the red stuffing beat out of him throughout the trailer, with his best friend and law practice partner, Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, begging him to stop his quest before he gets killed. Likewise, Murdock's superhero costume is going to take a beating as well. Throughout the trailer, you can see that Daredevil's mask has been broken down the front, as it was stitched and stapled back together. Was this damage the work of the Punisher, Elektra, or some other new foe? We'll just have to wait and see.
Frank Castle doesn't care who gets in his way, including Daredevil
As you can tell, the Punisher is Daredevil's main concern throughout the trailer. These two men are on opposite ends of the scales of justice. While they're both waging war on crime, the Punisher uses lethal force (that's putting it lightly) and Daredevil is doing the Batman-esque, leave-the-beaten-bad-guys-for-the-cops routine. Unfortunately, this is going to lead to an epic standoff between the two heroes, and Frank Castle is so driven that he will fight (and possibly murder) anyone who gets between him and the bad guys.
Elektra knows Daredevil's secret identity
This epic trailer ends with an exhausted Murdock coming home to his Hell's Kitchen apartment, only to find Elektra waiting for him. Daredevil grabs a knife from behind him in response, which teases their antagonistic relationship. Elektra has been a longtime love interest for Daredevil in the comics, but her being an assassin often keeps them divided. The yellow light and large windows with square tiles behind her match up to the same ones we've seen inside Matt Murdock's apartment throughout Daredevil season 1. Elektra obviously knows Daredevil's secret identity, and Murdock knows she's a lethal threat—why else would he grab a knife. Even though Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) are Murdock's main squeezes, we can't wait to see how Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) plays with his heart—preferably with the use of a sai.
There's another trailer coming
That's right—this epic trailer for Daredevil season 2 is labeled as part one. There's a part two coming soon, and we can't wait to see what else is happening in Hell's Kitchen. Will the Kingpin return? Are Elektra and Daredevil going to fight? Will the Punisher force Daredevil to break his cardinal rule? Is some epic villain going to debut, causing Murdock to team with Natchios and Castle? Find out next time, when we're back to breakdown the next trailer!
