Ready Player One Gets A Stunning New Trailer

Get ready to fight in the first full trailer for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One. The film, based on the novel by Ernest Cline, stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts, a teenager in the year 2045 who spends his time in the virtual reality world the OASIS, searching for a hidden Easter Egg which would bring him half a trillion dollars in riches if found.

The trailer begins with Wade introducing himself, explaining that his father picked his name for him "because it sounded like a superhero's alter ego." Both of Wade's parents died when he was young, leaving him in a futuristic version of Columbus, Ohio. "Sitting here in my tiny corner of nowhere, there's nowhere left to go," he says. "Nowhere except the OASIS."

The OASIS, Wade explains, is "a whole virtual universe" where people come "for all the things they can do, but... stay because of all the things they can be." "It's the only place that feels like I mean anything," he explains. The OASIS was the brainchild of James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who has recently died and is promising total control of the virtual world, described as "the world's most important economic resource," to anyone who can find the Easter Egg.

Wade, using his alter ego Parzival, joins up with Art3mis (Olivia Cooke) to try to find the treasure, but he will have many foes to face off with in the "war for control of the future." The trailer, set to "Jump" by Van Halen, spends the rest of its time showing off the action and drama packed in the OASIS, ending with a call to action: "Like many of you, I only came here to escape, but I found something much bigger than just myself. Are you willing to fight? Help us save the OASIS."

Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, Hannah John-Kamen, Lena Waithe, Win Morisaki, Ralph Ineson, Letitia Wright, and Philip Zhao also star in Ready Player One, which was directed by Spielberg based on a script from Zak Penn and Cline. The movie hits theaters on March 30, 2018.
