The Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Is Finally Here
The wait is finally over– our first official look at Avengers: Infinity War is here. After teasing fans with secretive trailers released at D23 and San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel finally gifted the world with a full trailer for the film, and it is epic.
"There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if we could become something more, so when they needed us we could fight the battles that they never could," the group of heroes says at the start of the trailer. "In time, you will know what it's like to lose," Josh Brolin's Thanos tells them. "To feel so desperately that you're right and to fail all the same. Dread it, run from it, destiny still arrives... Fun isn't something one considers when balancing the universe."
Avengers: Infinity War is set to unite basically the entire Marvel pantheon to fight against Thanos and his villainous lieutenants the Black Order. The many, many superheroes already confirmed for the film include Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner/the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), T'Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Also featured in the film are Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Vision (Paul Bettany), Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olson), Wong (Benedict Wong), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), James Rhodes/War Machine (Don Cheadle), Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Shuri (Letitia Wright). Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, Cobie Smulders, who plays Agent Maria Hill, and Benicio del Toro, who plays the Collector, are also set to appear.
Despite the seemingly endless wait for the trailer, the MCU's stars have been building the hype for Infinity War for a long time now. Brolin has raved about what he describes as a "brilliant" story, while Holland has said that "no one is ready" for the incredible film, and Pratt has said that the movie is "exactly what the fans want."
However, the movie won't be all fun and games– Evans has promised that the movie and its untitled sequel will "wrap everything up" for the MCU as we know it, and Ruffalo has prompted some grim rumors by saying in an interview that "everyone dies" at the end of the movie. With all the heroes and villains that it has to fit in, Infinity War has a lot of ground to cover, which may be why it could clock in at somewhere over two and a half hours– making it the MCU's longest film yet.
Captain America: Civil War helmers Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film and its untitled sequel, both of which are based off scripts from Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Avengers: Infinity War has a May 4, 2018 release date, while the untitled fourth Avengers movie has a May 3, 2019 release date.
