Sony Considering Delaying Release Of Kevin Spacey's All The Money In The World

The shockwave spreading across the entertainment industry as media studios and their productions stage mutinies against the sexual predators in their midst shows no signs of abating, as Sony Pictures is currently mulling changing the December release date of a high-profile film caught in the crossfire.

This story also involves Kevin Spacey, who was recently accused by Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp of making an unwanted sexual advance on him when he was only 14 years old

That story opened the floodgates for Spacey, who has since been accused by multiple people of sexually harassing or assaulting them over the course of his 35+ years in the entertainment industry, creating intolerable work environments as a result of his behavior. The revelations have already led to his ouster from the Netflix series House of Cards, threatening the future of the show's sixth season and stoking talks of potential spinoffs.

Because of this, Variety reports, Sony Pictures is now trying to decide what to do with the actor's latest film he's made with them, the John Paul Getty III kidnapping story All the Money in the World.

Ridley Scott directed the movie from a script by David Scarpa, who based the screenplay off of the book Painfully Rich: The Outrageous Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Heirs of J. Paul Getty by John Pearson.

The movie is currently scheduled to screen its premiere next week as a closing night selection of the American Film Institute's AFI Fest. But the fate of that screening is up in the air as well, especially as director Scott, who also produced the movie, is reportedly pleading with Sony to cancel the premiere. Other producers on the movie, Variety notes, disagree with Scott's opinion. No decision has yet been made.

According to Variety, the likeliest date for the movie's release should it be moved would be sometime in June 2018.

For our money, the smartest move is probably to release the movie as planned in December while downplaying Spacey's role—after all, a lot can happen between now and June, including more allegations, and there's no evidence at the moment that audiences will redevelop a stomach for Spacey in the coming months.

The studio has already made steps in this direction, scrapping an awards campaign that was meant to situate the actor in a promising light during Oscar season. Ironically, all of the work that went into making him unrecognizable for the sake of awards attention may now serve to help make him easier to ignore.

In addition to Spacey, the movie stars Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg, Timothy Hutton, Charlie Plummer, and Andrew Buchan.

As of now, All the Money in the World is slated for release on December 22, and we'll let you know if things change between now and then. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer for the movie here.
