The X-Files Reveals Season 11 Trailer

Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) are hunting for their son in the first trailer for The X-Files' eleventh season. The trailer, released at New York Comic-Con, features the pair dealing with family issues as they also face off with new threats against the entire human race.

"You have to find him and you have to stop him before he unleashes hell on earth," Scully tells Mulder from a hospital bed towards the end of the intense trailer, which teases conclusions to season 10's cliffhangers while also showing that things will not be getting any calmer from here. "You want to see blood in the streets," Mulder says to one of the villains. "The extermination of seven billion people."

Season 11 is set to include 10 episodes, up from season 10, which premiered in 2016. That season was the result of years of clamoring from fans after the show originally went off the air in 2002, and although many were happy to see Mulder and Scully back on TV, the show wasn't fully satisfying for some fans. Despite a medium reception from critics, the show posted some out of this world ratings, averaging 16 million viewers to earn the spot of the fifth highest-rated broadcast series of the season.

Talk of a potential re-revival started raging immediately after, with the official announcement coming in April. Anderson revealed at NYCC that this could be it for the show, saying that she doesn't think she will go back to the character again. "It felt like it wasn't over," Anderson said of why she decided to return for season 11. "It didn't feel like we necessarily deliver[ed] everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that."

Anderson seems to believe that season 11 will be able to deliver more of what fans are looking for, although only time will tell if she is right. The X-Files' eleventh season will premiere in January of 2018 on FOX.
