New Star Trek: Discovery Trailer Unveiled At SDCC

Change is coming in the newest trailer for Star Trek: Discovery. The trailer, released at San Diego Comic-Con, features a whole host of dramatic new glimpses at the upcoming CBS All Access show, which will serve as a prequel to the original Star Trek series.

"All life is born from chaos," Sonequa Martin-Green's First Officer Michael Burnham begins. "The world doesn't always adhere to logic. Sometimes down is up, and sometimes when you're lost, you're found." Burnham's cryptic and thoughtful way of speaking comes from her time as the first human to attend the Vulcan Learning Center and the Vulcan Science Academy, something which has resulted in the character having a close relationship with Spock's father Sarek (James Frain).

The trailer doesn't fully elaborate on this relationship, but it does feature Sarek dropping some nuggets of wisdom for Burnham, who must learn to deal with change and to challenge her own preconceptions as she is forced to make the "most difficult choice" she could make, one which will affect her, Starfleet, the Federation, and the entire universe.

This choice ultimately leads her from the Starship Shenzhou, where she begins the series, to the Starship Discovery, captained by Jason Isaacs' Gabriel Lorca. Lorca makes an appearance in the trailer as well, teasing that he needs Burnham's help to end the war that she helped to start. Also in the trailer is the first footage of Rainn Wilson's take on original series character Harry Mudd

The rest of the series' ensemble cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Chris Obi, Mary Chieffo, Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, Sam Vartholomeos, Rekha Sharma, Kenneth Mitchell, Clare McConnell, and Damon Runyan. The series will premiere on CBS All Access on Sept. 24, with episodes hitting the streaming service every Sunday through Nov. 5. After that, the show will take a short break before beginning to premiere the second half of its run in January of 2018.

While we wait for the series to debut, prep by reading up on some of the small details only true fans noticed in the show's first trailer.
