Ready Player One Trailer Revealed

It's game time. We finally have our first look at Ready Player One

During Warner Bros.' presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, legendary director Steven Spielberg unveiled footage for his highly anticipated film, Ready Player One

The trailer centers on star Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts, a teenage gamer who embarks on a thrilling treasure hunt in a video game called Oasis, designed by the eccentric James Halliday, portrayed by Spielberg darling Mark Rylance.

Throughout the clip of the '80s-themed (but still futuristic) action-adventure flick, we see Wade's hometown in Ohio, where trailers are stacked one top of each other in tight layers. Inside his, Wade suits up in his Oasis gear, ready to dive into the game. Various vivid environments flash across the screen: a futuristic disco, a meeting with the Iron Giant, a race in the DeLorean from Back to the Future, a battle with Freddy Kruger.

Beyond the heart-racing run, immense evil is featured. We see antagonists sitting in an office, controlling the avatars of Oasis. It becomes clear that these diabolical forces are looking to capture the in-game treasure before Wade does.

At the panel, Spielberg praised the source material, Ernest Cline's 2011 sci-fi novel of the same name, upon which the film is based. "It was the most amazing flash forward and flashback at the same time about a decade I was very involved in, the '80s, and a flash forward to a future that is awaiting all of us, whether we like it or not," said Spielberg (via The Hollywood Reporter). The director said it took him two and a half years to create the virtual world of the movie.

Ready Player One also stars Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One), Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Shaun of the Dead), T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley), Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys) also star. The film is set to hit theaters on March 30, 2018.

Until then, take a look at the sci-fi films that are going to blow everyone away next year.
