The Walking Dead Season 8 Trailer Is Here

The first trailer for The Walking Dead's eighth season is here, and it is jam packed full of tidbits about the upcoming batch of episodes. The trailer, which clocks in at a whopping five minutes, was released at the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.

The NSFW trailer begins with a pretty memorable line and continues to ramp up from there, showing off scenes of action and emotion. The trailer goes slower than many Walking Dead trailers that have come before, especially at the start, but it works, bringing in a great deal of suspense without giving away too much of what the upcoming season will hold.

The back half of the trailer fully delivers on the slow set-up, featuring a montage of the eye opening action scenes that the show has come to be known for. The ending hints at a time jump, featuring a grey haired Rick Grimes laying in a bed, with a cane resting on the wall. Everything looks rather peaceful in this future, so it remains to be seen whether or not it is a real flash-forward or it's some sort of dream.

Production on The Walking Dead's eighth season was briefly put on hold following the tragic death of stuntman John Bernecker, who passed away after falling more than 20 feet onto concrete while filming a scene for the series at Raleigh Studio in Georgia. Production resumed shortly after the accident, though, and the series currently has an Oct. 22 release date.

Showrunner Scott Gimple previously said that season eight will have a much faster pace than the previous season, with the focus pretty much entirely on the "pretty intense conflict." "It's going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck— shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together," he said.
