Josh Brolin fights forest fires in Only the Brave trailer

Josh Brolin and Miles Teller have to prevent a dangerous fire in the first trailer for Only the Brave. In the film, Brolin plays superintendent Eric Marsh, the head of a group of elite firefighters known as the Granite Mountain hotshots. Together with a new recruit Brendan McDonaugh (Teller), he must prevent a wildfire from taking over his town. The film is based on the true story of the firefighters who battled the 2013 Yarnell Hill wildfire.

"I work this blaze near Montana," Marsh says at the beginning of the trailer, which undercuts his speech with intense visuals of the situations he describes. "In the blink of an eye, there's fire everywhere. And then charging out of these flames comes this bear on fire. It was the most beautiful and terrible thing I've ever seen."

The trailer then moves into more solid territory, showing McDonaugh's introduction to the fire station, where there is just one spot left on the team. "Hotshots get to engage the fire directly," McDonaugh says, when asked what the team, which has been described as the "Seal Team Six of firefighters," does.

"Sooner or later the fire is going to come knocking in our home town," Marsh says as the trailer cuts through montages of the team in training. "We've been training for over four years. We've got all our hours, all our qualifications. But until we're certified hotshots my crew won't even be able to set foot on the line."

The team, certifications or not, must step into high gear when the fire starts raging, threatening people's homes and their lives. "It's gonna feel like the end of the world," Marsh says as they face the fire. "But as long as you can breathe you can survive… No one could be prouder of his boys than I am of you guys."

Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, Jennifer Connelly, and Taylor Kitsch also star in Only the Brave, which is directed by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion) based off a script from Ken Nolan (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). The film is set for an Oct. 20 release; while we wait, see some of the other movies that will blow you away this year.
